Nabza — Privacy Policy
Nabza shows how busy a place is right now — a hospital queue, a jammed road, a mall on a Saturday — using reports from people who are actually there. Doing that means handling where you are, so this page says plainly what is collected, what other people can see, and what stays private.
The short version. Nabza uses your location only at the moment you report a place or check in, never in the background. Other people see your name and the reports you post — never your location history, and never that you are at a particular place. Deleting your account removes your record from our servers.
What we collect
- Your name, and either an email address or a phone number, because that is how you sign in. A phone number is verified by a one-time code through Firebase Authentication.
- A username, which is shown on anything you post.
- A profile photo, only if you choose to add one.
- Your location, at the moment you ask for nearby places, submit a report, or check in to somewhere. Nabza has no background-location permission and does not follow you around.
- What you post — crowd reports, updates, invites, comments and any photos you attach.
- Usage data — how many reports you have made, your points, and timestamps, used for the leaderboard and to catch spam.
- An anonymised hash of your IP address, used only to rate-limit abuse. It is not stored in a form that identifies you.
Live presence — the "I'm here" button
Tapping I'm here on a place adds one to the count of people currently at it. This is the most sensitive thing Nabza does, so it is deliberately narrow:
- Your device checks that you are within about 150 metres of the place. That check happens on your phone; the coordinates are not sent or stored.
- What is stored is which place and when — nothing else. No coordinates, and no identity in the record itself.
- Other people see a number, never a name. Nabza cannot tell anyone who is at a place, and there is no way to browse the people at one.
- The count is hidden entirely below three people, so a single check-in can never point at an individual.
- A check-in expires after one hour unless you tap again.
What other people can see
Your name, username and profile photo appear on the reports, updates and invites you post, and on the leaderboard if you are on it. That is the point — a report is more trustworthy when it has a person attached.
What other people never see: your email address, your phone number, your location history, the places you have saved, or the fact that you specifically are checked in anywhere.
Photos
Any photo you attach is scanned by Google Cloud Vision SafeSearch before it is stored. Images that fail the safety check are rejected and never saved.
Who else is involved
- Google Maps and Places — the map, place search, and turning coordinates into an address. Your search terms and coordinates are sent to Google to answer them.
- Firebase (also Google) — sign-in, and storing your account, reports and presence records.
- Google Cloud Vision — photo safety scanning, as above.
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers.
How long we keep things
- Crowd reports expire on their own, between 45 minutes and 3 hours depending on the type of place, because stale crowd data is worse than none.
- Check-ins expire after one hour.
- Your account and your posts stay until you delete your account.
Deleting your account
Open Nabza, go to Me → Danger zone → Delete account. That removes your user record, your profile, and your sign-in, so the email address or phone number is no longer linked to any account. Full detail is on the delete account page.
